A vocal advocate for all parties who are involved in the difficult process of divorce, Ms. Sokolich maintains a highly successful private legal practice on Long Island, New York. Ms. Sokolich focuses her energy and professional expertise on the pressing and timely issues of matrimonial law, domestic violence, child custody, sexual abuse and all phases of family court matters.

Prior to opening her private practice, Ms. Sokolich was Assistant Counsel for Community Affairs to Council Member, Sheldon S. Leffler. In this capacity, Ms. Sokolich served as liaison to City government agencies, assisted in the investigation and resolution of ongoing constituent complaints, and represented the Councilman at meetings of the Community Board and District Service Cabinet.

A highly visible family advocate, Ms. Sokolich enjoys growing renown as a public speaker on the topics of matrimonial law, domestic abuse, and child custody, having addressed such erudite groups as the CUNY School of Law, John Jay College, The Eastern Queens Women's Democratic Club, the Queens County Women's Bar Association, and the New Jersey Association of Criminal Justice Educators, among others. She has been quoted extensively in such publications as Newsday, the New York Daily News, the Great Neck Times, and the Queens Courier, and is a popular and well-received media guest, most recently appearing on Speaking NOW, the public service radio program sponsored by the Nassau County National Organization for Women and Long Island Success, where she spoke on domestic violence.

In 1997, Ms. Sokolich was invited to edit the definitive Domestic Violence Survival Guide (Looseleaf Law Publications, Inc.). This important volume provides a no-nonsense reference for women involved in abusive situations, offering tactics, strategies, and guidelines for recognizing, preventing, termin- ating and surviving domestic abuse. "Domestic violence is a universal problem that cuts across every class and race in our society," says Ms. Sokolich. "And it's time that counselors, volunteers, human resource professionals, the legal system and victims themselves uncover and fight back against the shocking details of family violence."

To this end, Ms. Sokolich has dedicated her personal and professional careers to imparting lifesaving information to victims of family abuse, and to advocating on behalf of those victims who cannot do so for themselves. Presently, Ms. Sokolich is a charter member of Community Legal Research Network (CLRN) which was founded by the City University Law School at Queens College to help new attorneys begin their solo practices' and give them needed support so that they may offer services to all members of their community. Ms. Sokolich has taught various CLE courses at CLRN involving substantive areas of Matrimonial and Family Law.

She has also been affiliated with the City University at Queens College Paralegal Program where she taught a course on "The Impact of Domestic Violence on Matrimonial and Family Law. Since 1996, Ms. Sokolich has been a member of the Nassau County Law Guardian Panel, where she was appointed by the Appellate Division of the Second Department. In her capacity as a Law Guardian, Ms. Sokolich represents children during divorce, custody, visitation and abuse and neglect actions in both Supreme and Family Court.
